The Secret To How Snapple Cap Facts Get Written
The “clever” factoids that appear on the inside of Snapple caps may seem to be the creations of a bunch of fun-loving, trivia geeks, but as this UCB Comedy clip reveals the world of Snapple cap writing is actually a cutthroat den of high strung, foul-mouthed, cocaine-fueled executives. It kind of makes us wonder who’s writing those Bazooka Joe gum jokes?

its not true.
a bunch of internal marketing folks ask a promotions agency to create the facts. they will then submit for marketings approval. they are compiled from various resources.
they’re not as clever as you think just another mega-corporation trying to make a brand feel homegrown and personal.

True story: about 7-8 years ago I read a Snapple cap with a factoid stating that shrimp could not swim backwards. I knew for a fact that shrimp could swim backwards, I’d witnessed it many times myself.
So I emailed Snapple through the address on their web site and asked them where they got the copy for the factoids. They pointed me to a college student’s web page, and among the pages with recycled blonde jokes and urban legends was the list of “little-known facts” that the package designers mined for copy.
They must have thought that since the page was hosted on a college’s server, it was somehow factual. I wrote them back and asked them if anyone thought to double-check the information. Never got a response.
