Every once in a while here on Comedy.com we like to find out what some of our friends think are the funniest videos online so we invite them to be guest editor and share their favorites with our readers. For example, Rob Corddry recently introduced us to Monster in a Wheelchair and a bunch of other hilarious videos with his picks and today we’re excited to have picks from Brian Ibbott, the genius behind one of our favorite podcasts, Coverville.

So what does Brian, a music guy, find funny? Here’s his 10 favorites with his explanations of why he chose them. Take it away, Brian…

After extensive deliberation, here’s what I’ve got for my favorites. Some of these were really easy for me to recall, as I’ve told a bunch of people about them - others took some time as I look back and think, “What was I telling people to check out a few months ago?”

Take On Me (Literal version) and Head Over Heels (Literal version)

You know I’d have to have some cover songs on here, right? These are two of my favorites - although they don’t fall into the truest definition of “cover song.” I’ve blogged about these, and watching them again, I still think they’re absolutely brilliant. Especially the Tears For Fears video - which mirrored a lot of my own thoughts of watching the original back in the 80’s: “Float to the next level (in a magic chair).”

Coming to Alderaan

Growing up on Star Wars - which I saw 16 times in the theater in 1977 - there’s no shortage of videos to crack me up. A close second to my current favorite is the one featuring Darth Vader opening and closing his bizarre spherical chamber from Empire as Captain Needar reports on the whereabouts of the rebel scum, but this one narrowly edged it out.

Pussy vs. Printer and Ninja Cat

What is it about the Internet and cats? You’ve got numerous videos of cats on YouTube, and of course, the LOLCats. Is it the fact that these house pets appear to have no idea what this Internet thing is all about, or are they the most savvy marketers ever? You decide. And while you think about that, here are two videos that crack me up every time I see them.

The Shining

Revelation time here for this next one: I was almost Danny Torrance in the movie The Shining. Yes, the one directed by Stanley Kubrick. He held an open audition in Denver, Colorado, and my mom decided to send my picture and bio information. The field got narrowed down to about 10 kids, and I went in for an audition and screen test. I didn’t end up getting the part, naturally, but it’s a great story to tell every time someone brings up The Shining.

The best part of this video is the use of Peter Gabriel’s “Solsbury Hill,” which seems like a movie trailer cliche, but I can’t remember a single preview it was used for.

One Line On The Sopranos by Eric Weiner

This one is my current favorite. The Internet has given us all the opportunity to take our 15 minutes of fame, and extend it for a few years (see “You’re The Man Now, Dog”/YTMNG.com) or at least for a few minutes.

And now two videos that I love both because they’re creative and imaginative, and also because I’m friends with the producers.

First is the best video you’ll find on the Internet featuring Steve Guttenberg - pantsless or not - and it’s based on a true story, written brilliantly by the great Tim Coyne. The last few minutes of the video, featuring another buddy, Dan Klass, is priceless.

What’s The Baby Using?

And finally, a video that’s so cool it includes me. Also based on real life events, it’s the story behind the Internet meme “What’s The Baby Using?” It also features a cavalcade of Internet luminaries, like Jonathan Coulton, Tom Merritt, and the legendary Chris Browne.

There’s nothing better than pulling a good prank on your friends or co-workers…except maybe videotaping that prank and sharing it with the rest of the world. As many of you know (probably from first hand experience), there are hundreds of healthy fetishes available to subscribe to.
