DON BARNHART JR.’S FREEDOM OF SPEECH COMEDY SHOW SELECTED FOR CANADA’S JUST FOR LAUGHS COMEDY FESTIVAL
Internationally-recognized comedian’s show challenges U.S. government’s censorship policy
July 7, 2008 - Las Vegas, NV – Chucklehut Entertainment's “Freedom of Speech Comedy Show” created and hosted by award-winning comedian Don Barnhart Jr is selected for the Industry Conference at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, Canada July 17-18. Just Comedy is a multifaceted conference with concurrent sessions catering to comedy industry professionals during the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. Headliner comedian Don Barnhart, who recently won the American Idol Underground's Comedy Contest, came up with The Freedom of Speech Comedy Show while entertaining U.S. troops overseas. Barnhart explains, "We were censored by the government while entertaining the men and women putting their lives on the line to make the world a safer place." The concept of the Freedom of Speech Comedy Show is no gimmicks or censorship; just top touring comedians performing in front of real comedy club audiences.
"The subject matter of ‘The Freedom of Speech Show’ is everything from political to goofy, the only rule is it's got to be funny. For years, the networks have scoured the comedy clubs looking to develop the next comedy superstars but they have failed to do is leave LA and New York overlooking the solid road comics. The comics featured on the Freedom of Speech Show are all national touring headliners. The difference is that these comics spend their time on the road working on their acts, not hanging out in LA or New York,” explained Barnhart. Talk Show Host and Comic legend Jay Leno echoes Barnhart’s sentiment, "If you want to be good, go on the road and work on your act." Many of today’s biggest stars got their break by working on their act while touring comedians including Robin Williams, Jay Leno, Tim Allen, Chris Rock, Dane Cook, Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Carrey, David Spade, Ray Romano, Adam Sandler, Bill Maher, George Lopez, and Jamie Foxx.
Barnhart was recently named, “One of the Top Comedians to See” three years in a row by Entertainment Business Weekly. In addition to stand-up, Barnhart recently completed production on his independent drama, “China Dolls;” a film he wrote, directed and stars. He is also a contributing author on the book, “I Killed: True Stories of the Road from America’s Top Comics” which The New York Times called "hilarious." The Los Angeles native is also producer and host for the television series, "The Freedom of Speech Comedy Show." Don Barnhart can also be heard as a regular guest on The Bob & Tom Show, XM and Sirius Satellite. In addition to headlining at the top comedy clubs in the country including The Improv and Punchlines, Barnhart tours regularly for The USO and Comics On Duty with frequent stops in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
