Sacha Baron Cohen will receive the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award at the 36th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival on April 7. The recognition is the latest on the comedian's long list of accolades.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival recently announced Baron Cohen as the winner of their Outstanding Performer of the Year Award. The honor recognizes Sacha's success last year, with both the release of Borat Subsequent Movefilm at Amazon Studios and his role in Netflix's Chicago 7.
"In 2020, Mr. Cohen twice was able to capture our interest, our imagination, as well as the zeitgeist. His work in both films is timely, urgent, and nuanced," stated the film festival's Executive Director, Roger Durling. Previous winners of the award include Steve Carell, James Franco, Rami Malek, and Helen Mirren.

'It's an honor to be recognized and to stand in the company of such incredible past recipients," Da Ali G Show creator said. "I'm very grateful to Roger, SBIFF, and everyone who believes that cinema, whether drama or satire, can shine a light on injustice... and even provide a laugh or two along the way."
Baron Cohen is no stranger to awards, and neither is Borat. In 2007, the first Borat was nominated for an Oscar and was the winner of a Golden Globe, a Ronnie Barker Award in British comedy, an MTV Movie Award, and a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award.
But the news comes shortly after Sacha revealed he would not be playing the legendary character again. "There was a purpose to this movie, and I don't really see the purpose to doing it again," the comedic genius told Variety. "So yeah, he's locked away in the cupboard."
